In response to questions from EverythingLubbock.com, Texas Tech provided a brief written statement concerning President Donald Trump’s most recent executive order on immigration.
Texas Tech said:
“President Trump has issued a new Executive Order which takes effect March 16 and replaces the previous order, issued January 27. All students, faculty, staff and scholars impacted by this Executive Order are advised to refrain temporarily from traveling outside the United States. Those concerned should contact Chris Lemmons (806-742-3667) in the University’s Office of International Affairs.”
Previously Texas Tech said 149 students would impacted by the January 27 order. The new order would impact 142 students because 7 from Iraq would come off the list.
The new order would impact five research scholars all from Iran. The order would also impact five faculty all from Iran who are at Texas Tech on H1-B visas.
The new order will restrict citizens of Syria, Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan and Yemen from obtaining visas for at least 90 days. The order also will stop refugees from coming to United States for 120 days. US officials are directed to improve vetting measures for refugees.
