Thunderstorms are forecasted for Texas Tech’s football game against Louisiana Tech for Saturday, September 17 and officials say there are limitations to keeping yourself dry at Jones AT&T Stadium.

“Well of course we have a clear bag policy that is in effect and so, but people can carry a poncho or something in a clear bag into the venue,” Texas Tech Senior Associate Athletics Director Robert Giovannetti said. “Umbrellas have never been allowed at Jones AT&T Stadium so that remains the same this year.”

Stadium policies state that fans can bring any type of poncho into the stadium, but it has to be brought in a clear bag.

Once the game starts, Texas Tech said it’s up the the officials if the game will be delayed because of weather conditions.

Giovannetti said they use a meter to judge how sever the weather is and if it will put their athletes and fans in danger. He added they will mainly be looking out for lighting strikes in proximity to the Stadium.

“For all of our sports it’s regularly that way,” Giovannetti said. “Baseball, softball, soccer. We went through that with soccer this year. So you have to wait out the lightening strikes.”

If the game is delayed, he said the game will be delayed for 30 minutes and the stadium will be evacuated and shelter will be provided at the City Bank Coliseum next door.
