Texas track coach dies in bus accident

An east Texas high school’s track team assistant coach has died following an accident involving a bus in Titus County, Texas, reports KETK-TV.

According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, around 10:30 p.m. Thursday night, troopers responded to a three-vehicle accident on Highway 271 in Titus County, about a mile south of Talco.

Information from DPS indicates a semitrailer was traveling north on Highway 271, while a Mount Pleasant Independent School District school bus was traveling south, followed by a car. Officials say the driver of the semi drove into the southbound lane, hitting the school bus and the car.

The driver of the semitrailer and the driver of the car, identified as Mount Pleasant High School assistant girls track coach Angelica Beard, 30, were pronounced dead.  Several passengers on the school bus were taken to area hospitals. The driver of the bus, another coach who has not been identified, was taken to a Tyler hospital, where they are listed as being in critical condition, reports the Mount Pleasant Tribune.

Initial reports stated  four of the passengers sustained serious injuries and the rest of the injuries were reported to be non-life-threatening, DPS reports.
