For the first time in years Lake Arrowhead is full, and still trickling over it’s spillway, and that is something many local residents are ready to celebrate, along with the nation’s independence.
“We had been driving to Oklahoma, they had water in their lakes,” Wichita Falls resident Tabitha White said.
That’s how Wichita Falls resident Tabitha White and her family spent their 4th of July weekends for the past few years.
“You know it’s a little bit of gas and a little bit of a drive to get to Oklahoma. We had just been loading up and going there, but now a much shorter drive with our lakes full again,” White said.
“During the summer time there hasn’t been a whole lot to do out here, so it’s kind of good to get back in the swing of things,” Texas Game Warden Eddie Hood said.
There have already been numerous drownings since the lakes refilled, and Hood wants to remind everyone safety takes priority over fun this holiday weekend.
“One of the main things we look for out here when we pull up a boat, if there’s children on it that are under 13 we want to make sure that they have life jackets on,” Hood said.
He says game wardens and rangers will be on patrol throughout the holiday looking out for intoxicated and impaired boaters, to try to make it a fun and safe holiday on the lake for everyone.
Hood wanted to remind everyone that boating while intoxicated has the same consequences as a DWI and a big find and jail time is not a fun way to spend the holiday.
