The Buddy Holly Center is pleased to present Girls on Film: 40 Years of Women in Rock, opening on July 1 in the Fine Arts Gallery. This traveling exhibition from the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame features over 40 images by photographer Anastasia Pantsios; offering a glimpse into the evolution of women in rock and roll and includes images of some of the most influential women in the music industry.
Pantsios photographed her first concert, a free show by Jefferson Airplane, in Chicago’s Grant Park in 1969. At that time, Grace Slick was breaking all the rules for women in rock and roll. Her influence would pave the way for many female musicians who were fighting to break into the male-dominated genre. Pantsios was also trying to find her place in the male-dominated field of rock photographers, inspired by fellow female rock photographer, Annie Leibovitz. Girls on Film covers Pantsios’ 40 year career and highlights some of the most talented women in rock and roll history, including Grace Slick, Melissa Etheridge, Joan Jett and many more.
Girls on Film: 40 Years of Women in Rock will be on display July 1 through September 11, 2016 in the Fine Arts Gallery.
Funding for this exhibit was generously provided by the CH Foundation.
