Things are certainly different since moms and dads were kids…As one of our big struggles now is getting kids off the electronic devices to get out and exercise and stay healthy.
We talk with the Director of Covenant’s Lifestyle Center and find out some good ways to get the whole family out together to exercise and have fun.
Tommy Parrish is the Director of the Covenant Lifestyle Center and he says that getting your family out to start at some of the community walks around Lubbock. “Have some fun and raise a little money for a good cause and get some good activity in on a Saturday morning.”
The hardest part is keeping our kids from their electric devices. For some it’s an addiction, and the risk of disease and obesity later in life can be dangerous. Parrish says, “heart disease is the number one killer and we have a hard time getting our kids of the tablets phones or a Samsung and we need to get them out and moving and have fun.”
The biggest question we wanted answered is how can we as parents help our kids? Tommy tells us, “getting the whole family involved, doing bike rides, go for walks tennis golf where the entire family can enjoy.”
Or you can even get the family pet involved in the fun. “Mom and Dad can get the right kind of dog and they can go outside and let the kids play with the dog especially at the younger age and it’s good activity for the dog too. they are just like us if they don’t exercise they get lay around and eat and get lazy. So get the kids active and make it fun.”
You can start this weekend by taking your family to the Susan G. Komen walk!
