Tarzan comes back to the big screen this weekend in a big way. After Lord Greystone has to return to the jungle with his wife, Jane, he finds he’s just a pawn in a murderous plot. Visually stunning, but not getting very good reviews, the PG13 movie runs just short of  two hours. You can swing into the action at either Cinemark, the Alamo, and Stars & Stripes.

The whole family can enjoy Steven Spielberg’s latest, The BFG. It’s the story of a giant and a little girl who set out to capture evil giants. The effects are truly stunning and the reviews are pouring in positive. It’s rated PG and runs right at two hours. You can join the Disney adventure at Tinseltown, Alamo, Stars & Stripes, and at Premiere where it’s also in IMAX.

There is just one more performance of Lubbock Moonlight MusicalsSeussical. Narrated by the Cat in the Hat, it tells the story of Horton the Elephant’s desperate attempt to save the Whos in Whoville. Gates open Friday at 7:00 p.m. and the shows starts at 8:00 p.m., out at the Amphitheater in Mackenzie park. Tickets are $20 for adults and $7 for children, with premium seating available, through Select-A-Seat.

Big news for all of you Phantom of the Opera fans. Texas Tech Opera announced that former Broadway Phantom David Gashen will reprise his role for a Tech student production of the musical in November. Tickets will go on sale to the general public on August first, and will be in the $50 to $100 range.  Gashen is a Lubbock native and Tech grad and has performed the title role more than 1,300 times.
