The South Plains Food Bank had a great turn out for the holiday season. The U Can Share Food drive generated over 350,000 lbs of food and $187,000. They were able to distributed almost 4,000 Christmas boxes to families in need with the help of almost 14,000 volunteer hours during Nov. and Dec.
However, the job is never done. The South Plains Food Bank serves 20 counties, and there are about 96,000 people that are considered food insecure. The South Plains Food Bank only serves about 57,000 of those people. That leaves a hunger gap of about 39,000 people.
