The United Family announced today [Tuesday] the donation of $100,000 through its ‘100 Days of Giving’ campaign, presenting $1,000 to a different local non-profit for 100 consecutive days in celebration of the 100th anniversary of United Supermarkets.
The campaign kicked-off today, with a check presentation to Campfire Inc. in Vernon, Texas, which is the home of the first United Supermarkets location. Additional kick-off donation events were held in Abilene, Amarillo, Flower Mound, Brownwood, Midland and Lubbock, home of The United Family’s corporate office. Donations will continue daily for the next 99 days throughout West Texas, Dallas-Fort Worth and Eastern New Mexico, with the final donation on Sept. 7.
“Giving back to the communities we serve is our highest priority, as is showing our gratitude for the unmeasurable amount of support we receive from our faithful and longtime guests,” said Robert Taylor, president of The United Family. “We are honored to support a wide variety of non-profit organizations through our 100 Days of Giving campaign and hope to make a difference in the communities that have been loyal to us over the past century.”
The ‘100 Days of Giving’ donations are aimed to express appreciation for the many communities that have supported The United Family over the past century. 2016 marks a historic year, as United Supermarkets celebrates the store’s 100th anniversary. Today, The United Family operates United Supermarkets, Market Street, Albertsons Market and Amigos grocery locations, as well as United Express fuel and convenience stores, throughout West Texas, Dallas-Fort Worth and Eastern New Mexico.
“We can’t think of a better way to continue the celebration of our 100th anniversary,” said Mary Myers, communications and community relations manager for The United Family. “Our guests and partnerships are the heart and soul of The United Family and we’re grateful to give back to organizations that have given so much to our communities.”
To commemorate a century of service, The United Family designed an entire year of initiatives to benefit and improve the communities it serves, a core value of the company since it was founded in 1916. In January, the company kicked off the yearlong celebration with a birthday party at all stores and gave away 100,000 free cupcakes. Recently, more than 140,000 pounds of apples were donated to local food banks across the company’s service areas.
Additional upcoming initiatives in celebration of the 100th anniversary include a 100,000 pound food donation to local food banks in June to prepare for fall and winter when donations are most scarce. Lastly, this fall, The United Family will spread joy to area children’s hospitals by distributing 1,200 special 100th anniversary stuffed animals.
