A Lubbock business was the target of thieves multiple times, and Lubbock Police released surveillance video of the latest theft on Wednesday.
Staff at All-State Distributors, located at 1221 North Avenue S in Lubbock, claim burglars have stolen from the property before, despite increases in security at the business.
“They were out here about midnight according to security cameras, and they cut through the chain links in order to get the washer trailer out,” said general manager Phillip Lopez of the most recent theft, on March 29.
According to the police report, an employee told officers three people were seen stealing a wash trailer from the south yard on the property.
“The [suspects] came in a brown Chevy suburban. The trailer was towed away by the suburban. The trailer was backed up against the chain link fence. It it unknown what took was used to cut the chain link fence,” the report said.
The value of the stolen trailer was approximately $2,000 according to Lopez.
“Bring back our trailer. It’s not yours,” said shop supervisor Gary Vaughn. “And stop taking stuff.”
“It’s got identifying licensing numbers on it that people can identify us with. I’m not sure if we’ll get it back. It is the second break in that we’ve had within a weeks time,” Vaughn said.
Lopez corroborated Vaughn’s comments about multiple burglaries at the facility.
“This is probably the fifth or sixth time that we’ve actually had somebody break in and steal something,” he said. “This time around it was the second one in a week.”
Lopez said another theft took place overnight between March 18 and 19.
“The other one was not caught on camera. It happened in another part of the yard where cameras aren’t present,” Lopez explained.
That time, they “cut through the chain and stile a generator worth about $600, stole some batteries, chain tie-downs, and a 12-volt diesel pump worth about $624,” Lopez said.
Police said the facility’s location may have contributed to the company being targeted.
“Lack of lighting, not a very populated area [are factors],” said Sergeant Tal English. “Now the cyclone fence, that’s a great thing, but there’s still that opportunity to cut that fence and get in there, thieves are ingenious.”
Being a locally owned business, Lopez said the staff has an upset peace of mind over becoming a target for burglars.
“The owner of the company worked hard to get all this stuff. We’ve had trucks taken before,” he said. “We’re getting to the point where obviously we’ve added more security features to our facility to hopefully deter people from trying to break in.”
“We’re always on the lookout. We’re more fearful than when we were to know that people, somebody would just break in and take something that wasn’t theirs,” Vaughn added.
“A lot of these things are just hard to trace down,” English said. “Make sure you know all of your identifiers on your trailer, especially if you’ve made it yourself.”
Police have encouraged anyone with information about the trailer theft to contact Crime Line by dialing (806) 741-1000. Callers may remain anonymous.
“The public is the eyes and the ears of the Lubbock Police Department, and without them we can’t do what we need to do,” English explained.
