Saturday morning the City of Lubbock paid tribute to local heroes by hosting the 3rd annual West Texas Salute. Local residents were able to meet with military members and war veterans to celebrate their service.

“It’s all about coming together and really collaborating for the single most important purpose and that’s taking care of and supporting fellow veteran service members,” Eric Childeress, a Marine Corp Veteran said.

There were a series of events held including a 5k run starting at the Silent Wings Museum. Childeress ran the entire race carrying the American Flag.

“I don’t normally run with it but today was a special day, I just brought it out to run with it for the special event,” Childeress said.

Older veterans said today was all about bringing the generations of veterans together.

“Were trying to attract the younger veterans because we need them to fall in right behind us and keep up the work. We have a good veterans population but its older were trying to bring in the young veterans,” Les Beaty, a Vietnam Veteran said.
