Hundreds of thousands of pro-life activists traveled to the national mall for the annual “March of Life” on Friday. Vice President Mike Pence spoke at the event, which makes him the first Vice President to ever attend the event.

“Because of all of you, and the many thousands that stand with us, in marches like this, all across the nation,” said Vice President Pence. “Life is winning again.”

Although there wasn’t a formal march planned here in Lubbock, one woman said she felt inspired after watching the march on television. Jatonne Echeverria decided to make a “pro life” sign and stand near the Tim Cole Memorial on the corner of 19th and University.

“So this morning it just dawned on me, I could come out to this corner and be here and maybe there is a young woman or a older woman who is thinking about what she wants to do and maybe she will choose life,” said Echeverria. “That would be great, I would love that.”

Earlier this week President Trump signed the “Mexico City Policy” or known as “The Global Gag Rule” which bands foreign aid from funding organizations that help pay for abortions. Vice President Mike Pence said they will continue anti-abortion policies.

“This administration, will work with the congress to end tax payer funding of abortion, and abortion providers,” said Pence.
