Three people died in a plane crash in Amarillo early Saturday morning. It happened overnight near I-40 and Pullman.

An official helping at the scene said a small medical plane crashed shortly after takeoff. The plane crashed along a railroad track on Highway 287.

The plane was a Pilatus PC-12.

The Federal Aviation Administration said they will be sending an investigator from Lubbock to Amarillo to continue searching for the cause of the crash. The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating.

There was a thunderstorm in Amarillo at the time. Roland Herwig with the FAA said they were not tying the weather and the crash together at this time.

Amarillo-based Rico Aviation posted on their Facebook page, “Rico Aviation regrets to confirm the loss of three crew members last night. We are devastated by this tragedy and are mourning the loss of our team members. The families have been notified and they are in our hearts and prayers. We appreciate prayers for our fallen teammates and their families.”
