Toys for Tots announced the end of their 2016 season after reaching their goal Tuesday here in Lubbock.
“We did 8,280 children and we distributed over 28,631 toys,” Toys for Tots Coordinator 1st Sergeant Orlando Castillo said.
In late November, they told EverythingLubbock.com they were behind in their goal compared to previous years, with 8,000 toys still needed.
“But the Lubbock community came through and we received over 14,000 toys in two days,” 1st Sergeant Castillo said.
They distributed over 28,000 toys to children in Lubbock and nine other surrounding county, including two in Gaines.
“The children at the end of the day, that’s the ones receiving these toys and to see the smiles, to see the parents get emotional because they’re going through hard times,” 1st Sergeant Castillo said. “They do need assistance and some people are very pride-full that’s what we are here for to help those individuals and everything deserve.”
He added the Marine Corps Reserve is always accepting donations, and they are especially in need of items for their teenagers, both male and female.
