The Lubbock Marine Corps with Toys For Tots decided to add another county to their visit list this year. 280 Spur ISD students piled into the Bulldog Stadium for a Christmas surprise Monday morning, where they were each given a sack of toys for Christmas. First Sergeant, Orlando Castillo, said out of the 10 other counties they already serve, they find it important to add Dickens.

“Spur, Texas has never been included in Toys for Tots, and coming through here we have noticed the need for assistance, so I wanted to introduce the community to the Marine Corps as well as Toys for Tots and what we do.” Castillo said.

Students from Pre-k to Senior got the chance to interact with the marines, practicing drills with them on the field, and thank them for the toy sacks. The students also got a visit from Mr. Santa Claus himself, who came riding in on a big green truck.

“Sometimes the roads aren’t so good.. and the reindeer don’t know the way, so we get the marines out, we get their big trucks, and we have a lot of fun doing it.” said Claus.

Loretta Velez, the Spur Superintendent said the school district is so thankful for such a kind gesture, and a chance to recognize and help some of the smaller communities surrounding Lubbock.
