On Thursday, Aug. 18, eastbound US 84 traffic will be switched onto the new frontage road at FM 2528 (Frankford Avenue). The traffic switch will allow contractor Webber, LLC., to continue work to build new bridges at the US 84/Frankford Avenue interchange.
Traffic signals at the intersection will continue to operate as normal. Eastbound traffic is expected to remain on the frontage roads until construction of the bridge is completed.
Drivers are reminded that both east- and westbound US 84 traffic, through the construction zone, has been reduced to 65 mph, should use caution through the work zone, since crews will be working in close proximity to traffic, and should keep the following tips in mind:
- Slow down and always follow posted work zone speed limits. Speeding is one of the major causes of work zone crashes. Remember, traffic fines double in work zones.
- Pay attention. Workers and heavy equipment may only be a few feet from passing vehicles.
- Be patient. Delays from highway construction can be frustrating, but it only takes a few extra minutes to slow down for a work zone.
The $29 million project will reconstruct the US 84 / north Frankford Avenue interchange by building new US 84 bridges, entrance and exit ramps, and adding safety lighting. The project’s completion date is scheduled for late-2017.
