School is out for the summer across the community, but for some families this means an added burden of providing more meals throughout the summer. The South Plains Food Bank hopes to alleviate that burden with the Summer Feeding Program. This seasonal program provides a hot meal throughout the Summer. This daily program starts on May 31 and will continue through August 25.

“Our participants can just walk up to any of our sites as long as they are under the age of 18,” Development Director Meagan Bratton said. “It does not cost them anything. They will not be asked any eligibility questions. They don’t have to sign up for a program. They can just walk in and get a meal.”

This program helps bridge the gap of hunger during the summer. There will be different events in June and July to learn more about this program. The first event will be June 5 at the Hodges Community Center from 4 to 5:30 p.m. The second kick-off will be at Asbury United Methodist Church on June 12 from 5 to 7 p.m.The third event will be at the Lubbock Dream Center on July 11 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
