The online graduate programs in the Edward E. Whitacre Jr. College of Engineering continue to earn honors for its quality of education and affordability.
GradSource.com, an online resource focused solely on providing information to potential graduate students regarding the best online graduate schools, programs and post-career outlook, has ranked Texas Tech’s engineering Distance Learning Program No. 7 in the nation just a week after U.S. News and World Report placed Texas Tech in the Top 20.
“I am pleased that the Whitacre College of Engineering is progressive in providing quality education programs to students regardless of their location,” said Brent Guinn, senior director of Distance Learning in the Whitacre College of Engineering. “We strive to meet the students’ needs without compromising the quality of education provided at Texas Tech University.”
The Distance Learning Program provides students with a variety of educational needs and backgrounds the opportunity to receive a quality education without having to relocate and the flexibility to take classes at a pace fitting their schedule. It provides those who may be employed full-time the opportunity to participate in virtual classrooms at their convenience while still receiving a high-quality education.
Under distance learning, graduate students have the choice of several master’s degrees – systems and engineering management, software engineering, mechanical engineering, industrial engineering and civil engineering – as well as an interdisciplinary master’s of engineering and a doctorate of philosophy in systems engineering and management.
“The online programs offered by the Whitacre College of Engineering are consistently ranked as one of the best in the nation,” said Justin Louder, associate vice provost for University Worldwide eLearning. “This ranking once again highlights the deep commitment of the college to providing quality online and distance education. I applaud the faculty, staff and administration in the college for their commitment to online education.”
GradSource.com ranked Texas Tech eighth in terms of affordability and praised the university for its approach of allowing students to “go-it-slow” due to occupational and other demands of its students.
A significant portion of the graduate students in the Distance Learning Program are working engineers who are looking to further their education in their chosen field while also balancing the demands of work and family. Learning online allows students to manage other aspects of their lives, even if locations change while pursuing their degree.
“This is a continued recognition, nationally and globally, of our online programs,” said Al Sacco Jr., dean of the Whitacre College of Engineering. “We continue to try to serve the needs of the region, the nation and the world by providing access to a top engineering education.
