March is National Nutrition Month created annually by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. The campaign focuses attention on the importance of making informed food choices and developing sound eating and physical activity habits.
Each year the campaign has a slogan, this year’s is “Put Your Best Fork Forward.”
Mindy Diller, a registered dietitian with Texas Tech University, and Jackie Valle, a dietetic intern, want to educate those at the local level about the national movement.
Diller and Valle advise that everyone try to make the process of eating healthier as easy on themselves as possible. The two visited the set of KLBK This Morning with Leslie Adami and explained the three most important points of keeping a nutritional and healthy diet:
1.) Maintain a balanced diet: you can do this by making half of your plate fruits and veggies and making the other half lean protein.
2.) Reduce sugar intake, either through sodas or juice
3.) Dine out wisely
