Texas Tech Police Department say they received a report from an individual dressed as a clown in Chitwood Hall just before 11 p.m. Monday.
TTPD say they responded to the call on campus and found no one dressed as a clown or anyone who had actually seen a clown.
But before they could confirm the rumors to be not true, it had already spiraled out of control through the dorm hall and on social media.
“I heard a lot of people screaming in the hallways and all calling the police,” TTU Freshman Isabell Sanchez said.
“I was terrified and I was all the way on the other side of campus,” TTU Junior Bailey Carter said.
Lubbock Police and Tech Police both confirmed with KLBK and EverythingLubbock.com that this is in fact just a rumor.
“The fact that they were inside of the dorm makes me think it was a student just playing a joke and they didn’t harm anybody,” Carter said. “So it was probably just a student playing a joke but still not funny.”
Tech officials wants to remind everyone to be mindful of their surroundings at all times, and to call TTUPD with any suspicious activity at 742-3931.
