Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center (TTUHSC) School of Nursing and Dean Michael Evans, Ph.D., R.N., will host an event 8:30 a.m. January 11.

The event will open the Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner track.  The event at University Medical Center McInturff Conference Center, 602 Indiana Avenue, will include special guest speakers Army Major General Mark Graham and Carol Graham.

The TTUHSC School of Nursing PMHNP track will begin in the Spring 2017 semester with 21 students. The track is looking to further the education of advanced practice registered nurses in the field of mental health.

TTUHSC said, “The Grahams’ personal struggle with the loss of their sons Kevin and Jeffery made national headlines as they became advocates for soldiers who suffer from post-traumatic stress disorder, traumatic brain injury and suicidal thoughts.”

“Kevin was a University of Kentucky Senior Army ROTC scholarship cadet studying to become a doctor when he committed suicide in 2003.” TTUHSC said.  “Jeffery was a commissioned lieutenant in the United States Army as an armor officer when he was killed by an improvised explosive device in Khadliyah, Iraq in 2004.”
