Two Amarillo Police Officers will not face charges in connection with the shooting death of a suspect.
On Wednesday, the 47th District Attorney said a Potter County grand jury found officers Bryan Gaitan and Shane Wheeler acted in self-defense during the shooting death of Jason Herrera, 35.
In June, the officers were responding to a trespassing call involving a domestic dispute at an apartment in East Amarillo.
Investigators said Herrera attacked one of the officers, slamming him to the ground.
Officers tried to use tazers on Herrera before he broke free. Police said he pulled out a handgun which is when Officer Gaitan fired the fatal shot.
