Slaton Police were called to the 1400 block of West Lynn Street for the report of two dead bodies just before 11:00 am. Police and Texas Rangers were on scene and a home was cordoned off with crime tape.
Police said the situation appears to be a murder suicide. Next of kin had not been notified yet, so names and other details had also not yet been released.
Police did later say that the bodies of one man and woman were found. No shooter was thought to still be on the loose.
The home was also the location of a shooting in 2012. Officials at that time said an intruder tried to get into the home and there was a shootout between the intruder and one of the residents. The intruder was killed. Two others recovered from gunshot wounds.
Police said the 2012 shooting appears to have no connection with the current case.
Debra Sims, has lived up the road from the couple for 40 years and says its always been a quiet neighborhood.
“Slaton is usually really quiet. Quiet nice town, it’s just terrible something like this happened. It’s happening everywhere now. Crazy. Crazy world.” said Sims
Chief of Slaton Police, Trevor Barnes said that people should know that it’s still a safe neighborhood.”
“Slaton police deparment will definitley be in the area and help anybody out if anyone has anything to say or if they see something and want to talk to us. But most definitely, 100% the house is definitely secure, whatever happened, happened between the two people inside of the residence and there is no danger in this neighborhood at all ” said Barnes.
