Yoakum County Sheriff Donald Corzine said Friday that two workers died Wednesday due to a drilling rig accident northeast of Denver City.
Corzine did not release names, and he also indicated his department did not know exactly what happened. He said possibly an equipment malfunction led to their deaths.
One died at the scene. Another died later at Brownfield Regional Medical Center. Corzine said federal officials were also investigating.
The rig was owned by Norton Energy Drilling. The company has so far declined to comment.
