Abraham Joseph Sanchez, 31, and Mary Crystal Valdez, 25, both of Lubbock, were indicted Tuesday for possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver.

Court records said Sanchez was arrested on February 26 for a different drug trafficking case.  A search of his vehicle led to a picture of Valdez.

Court records said, “Investigators learned that Mary [Valdez] and Abraham [Sanchez] lived [in the 1800 block of] East 25th Street.”

A search warrant then led to plastic baggies, ledgers, a glass pipe, a white substance, a can safe (a container with a false bottom which is made from a soda can), U.S. currency, a scale, cell phones and a letter “from the Sinaloa Cartel.”

An officer wrote in an incident report, “I also knew through my training and experience that the Sinaloa Cartel is the most powerful cartel in the Lubbock area.”

After Sanchez was arrested, court records said he had a jailhouse call with Valdez.  He was heard telling her to “get rid of everything.”

Court records said, “… The drugs were located within 1,000 feet of Dunbar Science Academy which is a Drug Free Zone.”

Some, but not all, of the “crystal like substance” found in the home tested positive for amphetamine/methamphetamine.

As of Wednesday evening, Sanchez was held in the Lubbock County Detention Center on bonds totaling $167,000.  Valdez was held on a $100,000 bond.
