Two Killed in Titus County Traffic Accident Early Sunday Morning

MOUNT PLEASANT, TX (PRESS RELEASE) — Two people were killed early Sunday morning in a fiery crash in Mount Pleasant. 

The crashed happened just before 1:00 a.m. in the 2200 block of West 1st Street, also known as Farm-to-Market Road 899.

The vehicle, driven by Manuel DeJesus Diaz, 19, was traveling eastbound on West 1st Street when it left the roadway striking several trees. 

The car then became engulfed in flames sparked by the crash. 


Witnesses reported seeing Diaz, as well as Maria Gonzales, 33,  trapped inside the vehicle during the fire. Due to the intensity of the flames witnesses were not able to get the passengers out. 

Mount Pleasant Fire and Police Crash Reconstruction Investigators and Detectives responded to the scene.  At this time there are no indicators as to why the crash occurred.
