One teenager is dead and a second is recovering in a local hospital after being shot Friday afternoon in Wichita Falls.
The incident occurred in the 5200 block of Kingston Drive around 3:30 p.m.
Wichita Falls Police have identified the victims as Lauren Landavazo and Makayla Smith. Both victims are 13-years-old.
Authorities said Landavazo died from her injuries and Smith was last listed in stable condition at a local hospital.
The suspect is described as a white male, possibly between the ages of 16 and 18, with shaggy brown hair. He was possibly driving a black pickup with chrome running boards. According to witnesses, he was also armed with a rifle.
In a news release Saturday, Wichita Falls Police said detectives have spoken to multiple witnesses and have received numerous tips regarding this crime.
Police also addressed reports circulating the shooting may have been racially motivated. “There has been a recent report show up on social media and other websites that makes references to the shooting. The statement claims that it was committed by a white supremacist who targeted the victims due to their race and friendship.. The WFPD wants to strongly refute that claim. There has been no evidence found to indicate such a motive,” the news release stated.
