HOBBS, NM (PRESS RELEASE) — One person is dead after a two vehicle collision in Hobbs, New Mexico on Tuesday, June 9th, at 2:11 PM. The Hobbs Police Department responded to the 2200 block West County Road in reference to a head on collision involving two vehicles. Upon officers arrival, they located two vehicles, a Ford pick-up driven by 24 year old Robert Striegler of Odessa, TX and a Lexus driven by 23 year old Yadira Morales, of Hobbs. Striegler was transported from the scene by ambulance to Lea Regional Medical Center where he was treated and released. Morales was pronounced dead on scene.

Striegler was traveling north on West County Road.  He had passed the intersection of Mahan when Morales’ vehicle, which was traveling southbound, crossed over into his lane of travel. The two vehicles collided in the northbound, inside lane. 

The initial investigation revealed speed was a factor in this collision. The use of alcohol or drugs does not appear to be a factor. Detectives and the Traffic Unit are continuing their investigation. Any charges are pending the result of the investigation.
