A Sundown woman was transported to a Lubbock hospital following a two vehicle accident early Sunday morning in Hockley County.

According to the DPS, the accident occurred on U.S. Highway 385 approximately 9 miles south of Levelland around 1:40 a.m.

Authorities said the driver of a Nissan Armada SUV fell asleep and drifted into the northbound lanes in front of a semi-truck. The driver of the semi-truck attempted to avoid the collision but was struck on left front side.

The SUV spun counterclockwise and came to rest in the middle of the highway. The semi-truck came to rest in an east barrow ditch.

The driver of the SUV, identified as Kristen Strickland, 32, of Sundown, was transported by Levelland EMS to University Medical Center in Lubbock. Strickland reportedly had several broken bones.

University Medical Center reported late Sunday afternoon that Strickland was discharged from the hospital around 8:00 a.m.

The driver of the semi-truck was not injured.

Diesel fuel was spilled from the semi-truck and emergency crews were on the scene cleaning up the spill until 7:00 a.m.

The DPS said this is the second major accident on U.S. Highway 385 south of Levelland this weekend.
