The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) was called to a two-vehicle crash this morning on US-385 in Oldham County, resulting in the death of two people.

At approximately 7:43 a.m. David Garza, 70, of Hereford, was driving a 1995 Freightliner truck tractor, towing a 1991 semi-trailer northbound on US-385, approximately 4 miles north of Vega. Edward Carrillo, 37, of Hereford, was driving a 2016 Kenworth truck tractor, towing a 2016 semi-trailer southbound on US-385. Carrillo crossed over into the northbound lane and collided head on into the Freightliner driven by Garza.

Garza and Carrillo were pronounced dead on scene by the Oldham County Justice of the Peace,  Kristi Homefeld

The suspected factor causing Carrillo to cross over into the northbound lane is that he may have fallen asleep.

Neither Garza nor Carrillo were wearing seat belts.

The road conditions were dry and no other vehicles were involved.
