Two Vehicle Accident on I-27 Near Kress Thursday Afternoon Kills Tulia Man

The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) was called to a two vehicle crash on IH-27 that occurred Thursday in Swisher County, resulting in the death of one person.

At approximately 5:09 p.m., Kenneth Chase, 30, of Wilmington, Ohio, was driving a 2015 Kenworth truck tractor towing a 2015 Utility flatbed trailer northbound on IH-27 approximately one mile north of Kress. Ralph Edwards, 74, of Tulia was driving a 1994 Chevrolet Suburban northbound on IH-27 in front of the truck tractor towing the flatbed trailer. The truck tractor collided in the rear end of the Chevrolet Suburban causing Edwards to lose control of the Suburban. The Suburban skid off to the east of IH-27 and rolled over several times until it came to a rest on its roof in a field to the east of the roadway. Edwards was not wearing his seat belt and was ejected from the vehicle.

The cause of the accident is still under investigation.

Edwards was pronounced dead on Scene by Swisher County Justice of the Peace, Sharla Miller.

Chase was not injured.

The road conditions were dry and no other vehicles were involved.
