The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) was called to a two-vehicle crash Sunday in Potter County on SH-136, resulting in the death of one person.

At approximately 7:30 p.m., Steven Ray, 39, of Amarillo was driving a 2008 GMC Sierra northbound on SH-136 approximately 15 miles north of Amarillo.

Thomas Bannister, 25, of Amarillo, was driving a 2016 Chevrolet Corvette southbound on SH-136. Bannister veered over into the northbound lane and collided head-on into the GMC Sierra, driven by Ray.

Bannister was pronounced dead on scene by Potter County Justice of the Peace, Richard Herman.

Ray was air-lifted to the hospital where he is being treated for his injuries.

Bannister and Ray were both wearing seat belts at the time of the crash.

The road conditions were dry and no other vehicles were involved.
