The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) was called to a two-vehicle crash Monday on IH-40 in Carson County, resulting in the death of one person.

At approximately 8:50 p.m., the driver of a truck tractor semi-trailer was traveling westbound on IH-40 approximately eight miles east of Amarillo. The driver of a passenger car was traveling eastbound on IH-40. The passenger car left the roadway and crossed over the center median into the westbound lane into the path of the truck tractor semi-trailer. The driver of the car crashed head on into the truck tractor semi-trailer, resulting in the death of the driver.

The driver of the car was pronounced dead on scene.

The driver and passenger of the truck tractor semi-trailer were both transported to the hospital with injuries. 

The initial factor that caused to the driver of the car to leave the roadway and cross over the center median is unknown at this time. The crash is still under investigation.

The driver of the passenger car (2010 Dodge Charger), who died on scene was identified as 48-year-old Tina Quinn, of Amarillo.

The driver of the truck tractor semi-trailer (2004 Peterbilt towing a 2004 Utility semi- trailer), was identified as 57-year-old Bobby Mason, of Amarillo. Mason was transported to the hospital in Amarillo where he was treated and released for his injuries.

The passenger in the Peterbilt was identified as 56-year-old Oneta Mason, also of Amarillo. She was transported to the hospital in Amarillo where she remains in critical condition.

Due to the extent of the damage to the Peterbilt, troopers were unable to determine if either Bobby or Oneta Mason were wearing seat belts.

Quinn was not wearing her seat belt.

The road conditions were dry and no other vehicles were involved.
