The Texas Department of Public Safety was called to a two-vehicle crash that occurred Wednesday in Hartley County, resulting in the death of one person.
At approximately 7:01 a.m., Michael Annis, 59, of Lawrence, Kan., was driving a 2016 Freightliner truck towing two semi-trailers northeast on US 54 approximately 17 miles southwest of Dalhart. Walter McCoy, 46, of Alamo Gordo, N.M., was driving a 1997 Jeep Wrangler southwest on US 54. McCoy crossed over into the northeast lane of travel and into the path of the Freightliner truck and trailers. McCoy collided head-on into the Freightliner truck causing the death of McCoy.
McCoy was pronounced dead on scene by the Hartley County Justice of the Peace, Beth Moore.
Annis and passenger, Timothy Herl, 54, of Kansas City, Kan., were not injured.
Annis, Herl, and McCoy were all wearing seat-belts at the time of the crash.
The road conditions were dry and no other vehicles were involved.
