The Texas Department of Transportation is set to begin construction at the interchange of US Highway 84 and North Frankford at the end of the month.
“It’s a $29 million project,” TxDOT spokesperson Dianah Ascencio said. “We’ll add a couple of bridges as well as entrance and exit ramps and some additional lighting to that area of the roadway.”
Ascencio said the bridges will improve mobility and security in the area.
“It’s a heavily traveled area,” Ascencio said. “So traffic that is just following through US 84 and not trying to get off on Frankford won’t have to stop at that traffic signal there.”
TxDOT crews will also be ramping up construction on several other projects now that temperatures are rising.
“We also have an ongoing project on US 84 to rebuild a large portion of that section between Shallowater and the Loop here in Lubbock to rehab a lot of that roadway,” Ascencio said.
She added that it’s important for drivers to be careful in construction zones because conditions change day-to-day.
“Slow down, be aware that there might be workers or equipment working near the roadway. Always watch out for them,” Ascencio said. “Be patient because you may experience some delays but if you’re patient and aware of what’s going on around, you’ll make it through the construction zone just fine.”
Ascencio said construction at US 84 and North Frankford should be complete by late next year.
