TxDOT to Begin U.S. 84 Bridge Project in Slaton on Tuesday, May 31

The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) is set to begin work on a project that will improve safety and mobility along US 84 in the city of Slaton.

The $15 million project will build a new US 84 mainlane bridge over the railroad crossing, located between County Roads 3500 and 3600, and add U-turns underneath the bridge to eliminate all at-grade railroad crossings, said Will Barnett, TxDOT’s Lubbock area engineer.

“TxDOT is committed to keep traffic flowing through the work zone, but US 84 motorists can expect various lane closures, traffic shifts and detours throughout the duration of the project,” Barnett said. “Our goal is to make sure we get the work done in the safest and most efficient way possible.”

Work on the project is scheduled to begin Tuesday, May 31, with project contractor Allen Butler Construction, of Ransom Canyon, setting barricades and making preparations to build the header banks and drill shafts for the bridges, Barnett added.

Drivers are asked to use caution through the work zone, since crews will be working in close proximity to traffic and should keep the following tips in mind:

The project’s completion date is scheduled for early 2018.
