This week, the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) will resume work on project to make roadway improvements to more than five miles of US 84 in Lubbock County, from Loop 289 in Lubbock to Loop 388 in Shallowater. Work on the $8.36 million project began in August 2015.
“We suspended operations last fall due to temperature restriction for the road surface hotmix. We’ll restart work [this] week,” said Edward Sewell, P.E., TxDOT Lubbock Area engineer overseeing the project.
Project contractor Duininick, Inc., of Roanoke, Texas will resume work to mill the existing pavement then repave and resurface the roadway on June 13.
“Drivers should be aware that speed limits in the construction zone will be reduced by 10 mph, can expect various lane closures, possible traffic delays and are urged to use caution when driving through the work zone, since crews will be working in close proximity to traffic,” Sewell said.
Drivers should keep the following tips in mind:
- Slow down and always follow posted work zone speed limits. Speeding is one of the major causes of work zone crashes. Remember, traffic fines double in work zones.
- Pay attention. Workers and heavy equipment may only be a few feet from passing vehicles.
- Be patient. Delays from roadway construction can be frustrating, but it only takes a few extra minutes to slow down for a work zone.
The project’s completion date is scheduled for summer 2016.
