A spokesman for the United States Marshal Service addressed the release of a suspect who had previously been charged with murder and has ties to the Mexican Mafia.
Paul Lujan, who was arrested and charged with murder back in June, was “inadvertently” released from federal custody Thursday afternoon.
Authorities were able to locate Lujan in the area of 3rd Street and Texas Avenue around 6 p.m. Thursday evening.
Officials with the U.S. Marshal Service said on Friday that the release of Lujan was an administrative error and that steps have been taken to ensure that it will not happen again.
Officials would not elaborate on the administrative error or exactly what steps were being taking.
They would also not comment on where Lujan was being held at the time of his accidental release but did note that Lujan did not turn himself in.
