The West Texas Walk of Fame holds more than 50 names of artist from the South Plains. Artist are represented from a handful of different talent backgrounds from music to art.
“Terri Cook was recognized last year and he is a wonderful opera star who is from Plainview and went to Tech and he lived in Lubbock for a long time too,” Sammie Prather, the Chairman of Lubbock Walk of Fame Committee said.
Prather said since it is called the West Texas Walk of Fame they take applications from candidates all across the South Plains.
“The person that we honor needs to be within 150 miles of this area, of course because it is a West Texas Walk of Fame, not a Lubbock Walk of Fame. We like to find people who were influenced by growing up here or living here. We know not everybody can be born here but realize people who have moved here that have been apart of the community,” Prather said.
Every year, around September, the committee holds a ceremony honoring the newest inductees. Prather said these events create a special moment for the community.
“As it’s evolved we’ve looked around and seen a lot of other individuals in the visual and performing arts area. It starts showing you the wide areas of talent this area has produced, I think that’s the most exciting part,” Prather said.
