To kick off the season of giving, Lubbock-area United Supermarkets, Amigos and Market Street stores will participate in the annual “U Can Share” holiday food drive. Beginning Monday, Nov. 28, all locations will accept food and monetary donations, which will directly benefit the South Plains Food Bank.
Between Monday, Nov. 28, and Sunday, Dec. 11, guests can make a monetary donation or purchase a food bag for $8. All Lubbock store donations will be collected on behalf of the South Plains Food Bank, a local organization responsible for securing, growing, processing, and distributing food to charitable organizations and persons in need. The food bank also strives to provide opportunities for persons to break out of the poverty cycle.
“It’s important to remember that for many families, food is not something that can be taken for granted,” said Mary Myers, communications and community relations manager for The United Family. “The United Family strives to bring cheer and joy to the community through holiday recipes and decorations, as well as through the act of giving back to those in need. We’re humbled to partner with the South Plains Food Bank and deeply appreciate the work they do in our community.”
During the food drive, guests can also donate nonperishable food at any United Supermarkets, Amigos or Market Street location in the Lubbock area. Collection bins can be found at the front of each store.
Needed items include canned products such as meat, tuna, soup, fruits, juices and vegetables; dry products such as rice, macaroni and cheese, Hamburger Helper®, Rice-A-Roni®, instant potatoes, as well as cereals and peanut butter.
