Unofficial Results: Voters Approve LISD Tax Rate Rollback

The unofficial results of the Lubbock Independent School District Tax Rate Rollback Election (also referred to as a Tax Ratification Election) were released by the Elections Office Tuesday night.

Early voting showed 85.74% of voters approved of the rollback, with 14.26% against. 5,008 early votes were cast.

After election day results were added, the item passed with 85.29% approval. 6,070 votes were cast overall.

“This is going to be a huge boost forward for our kids,” Dr. Berhl Robertson, LISD Superintendent told EverythingLubbock.com.

“Voters saw that our board was really trying to be sensitive to taxpayers and try to maximize our resources at the state level without increasing the tax rate, but it is going to have a huge impact for us because technology, our students have got to be exposed to quality technology, up to date technology, so that we can use our current systems and software that we have,” Robertson added.

The passing of the tax ratification means LISD can shift two cents from the debt service tax to the maintenance and operations tax.

This allows the district to use $5.5 million to pay for technology upgrades, and additional costs associated with facilities and other instructional needs.
