Update:

The Lynn County Sheriff’s Office reported Saturday morning that Ismael RamIrez Reyes had been apprehended in New Mexico. No further details were given.

Original Story:

An inmate that escaped the Lynn County Jail early Friday morning has involved several authorities from multiple counties as he leads a manhunt north.

The inmate was identified as Ismael RamIrez Reyes, 41.

Lynn County Sheriff Jerry Franklin said Reyes stole a car from the 1000 block of S. 6th street in Tahoka, just blocks away from the jail. Authorities found the stolen car in Matador, where a white Chevy pickup was stolen. From there, investigators believe Reyes headed north into Hall county, where he stole another vehicle. That stolen vehicle was found in Donley County, where another vehicle was stolen.

Franklin said Reyes was arrested in December for unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, evading arrest and possession of a firearm by a felon. Reyes has a lengthy criminal history that includes more than 30 arrests.

His last known address was listed in Muleshoe. Franklin said they have been in contact with the family and other known associates.

Franklin said the department was shocked to learn Reyes headed north. The sheriff said they had anticipated Reyes to flee south towards the border, because that is where he fled before.

Texas DPS, Border Patrol, U.S. Marshals and all local police and sheriff’s departments are involved in the manhunt for Reyes.
