UPDATE: Lubbock Police said the department was not investigating a shooting, but officers did respond to an assault near Marsha Sharp Freeway and University Avenue that “turned out to be a road rage incident.

“The two drivers stopped at a light and confronted each other,” a police spokesperson said. “One male punched the other and drove away.

“The male that was hit stayed on scene and spoke to police,” LPD said. “He refused treatment from EMS. There was no mention of a gun or any shots being fired.”

Lubbock Police are investigating “shooting incident” near the Texas Tech Campus, according to an alert sent to students and staff.

The incident occurred at Marsha Sharp Freeway and University Avenue, the alert said.

According to the message, the suspect was seen driving away from the area in a gold vehicle after shooting someone.

Texas Tech said the incident appeared to be isolated.

A witness told an EverythingLubbock.com photojournalist that the incident was a fight in which “someone hit someone with a shovel.”

LPD said the altercation was being written as an assault report, but no other information was provided.
