Around 7:00 p.m. on January 15, 2017, New Mexico State Police officers investigated a single vehicle fatal crash located on New Mexico State Road 18 at mile marker 20, in Lea County.
The initial investigation indicated a vehicle traveling southbound on State Road 18 failed to navigate a curve in the roadway. The vehicle entered the median and crossed into the northbound lanes of traffic and rolled. The driver and passenger in the vehicle were both unrestrained and were ejected from the vehicle.
The driver, Lynn Wilbur Stehley (44) of Jal, NM, was transported from the scene by EMS to Odessa, TX for medical treatment. The New Mexico State Police was advised Mr. Stehley succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased on January 21, 2017 around 11:00 a.m. in Odessa, TX.
The passenger, Jesse David-Allan Ables (32) of Kermit, TX, sustained fatal injuries in the crash and was pronounced deceased on scene.
