Lubbock police report one person is dead and another person has been critically injured in an accident on the North Loop near Landmark Lane.

“A motorist who ran out of gas was parked on the westbound lane of the shoulder of north Loop 289. A pickup truck crashed into the of the parked vehicle. The pickup driver got out of his vehicle to check on the stranded motorist,” said Tiffany Pelt, with Lubbock Police.

The driver of he pickup called his father, police said, and his father arrived to the scene.

Another driver passing by stopped to check on everyone, according to LPD.

“The pickup driver, his father and the motorist who stopped were all standing on the shoulder of the loop when a van hit all three people,” Pelt said.

Police identified the deceased motorist who stopped at the scene as Stephen Conway.

The pickup driver was uninjured, but his father was taken to the hospital with serious injuries. His injuries are believed to be non-life threatening,” police said.

Police said the driver of the van took off on foot, and officers have not yet located the driver, as of Friday night.
