First responders were called to 34th Street and Indiana Avenue just before 5:00 p.m. for the report of a construction worker hit by a vehicle.  Police later said it was two instead of one.

Workers were trying to fix a broken water line in the area which required lane restrictions at the intersection.

Police said two pickups — one going south and another going north — collided.  The truck going north then slid into two city employees who were working at the intersection.

One suffered moderate injuries and the other had minor injuries.

The City of Lubbock sent out the following written statement early Tuesday evening:

There has been an accident at the intersection of 34th Street and Indiana Avenue, which is under construction due to a water distribution pipeline failure. Drivers should avoid the area if possible and find alternate routes. The City encourages drivers to use extreme caution if they absolutely have to drive in the construction zone.

Both city employees that were injured in the accident are now home and recovering, according to a news release from the City of Lubbock Wednesday morning.
