Update: Standoff at Southwest Lubbock Apartment Complex Ends, Man in Custody

The Lubbock Police Department, Lubbock Fire Department and UMC EMS crews responded to a standoff at a Southwest Lubbock apartment complex Saturday afternoon.

The incident occurred in the area of 54th Street and Aberdeen Avenue at the Mission Villas apartments.


Sgt. Jason Lewis told EverythingLubbock.com officers were dispatched to the scene on a reported domestic disturbance call around 12:20 p.m. Lewis said the man reportedly locked his significant other out of the apartment and then barricaded himself inside the residence. 

There was no one else inside the residence during the incident, Lewis said. 

The Lubbock Police Department SWAT team was also dispatched to the scene.

Negotiators were on scene for several hours trying to get the man to come out of the residence. 

The man was taken into custody around 5:45 p.m. There were no injuries to the man but he was transported to University Medical Center as a precaution. 

Lubbock Police have identified the man as Ruben Sandoval, 29. He is charged with making terroristic threats, burglary and stalking.
