Police were investigating after a traffic accident was reported around 10:10 p.m. Wednesday at the intersection of Avenue Q and 40th Street.

University Medical Center EMS said a person had died in that traffic accident.

No names have been released as of late Wednesday evening.

Lubbock Police’s Accident Investigation unit was on scene and was investigating the accident.

Thursday morning, Lubbock Police released a statement: 

Last night, Wednesday, June 1, 2016 at approximately 10:13 p.m., patrol officers responded to a report of a hit and run crash involving a vehicle vs. pedestrian in the 4100 block of Ave Q. A 2003 Ford Expedition was traveling northbound on Ave Q when it struck a pedestrian in the street. The driver of the Ford Expedition left the scene and did not stop to render aid.

The pedestrian, Ramon Ledesma Jr. – 55, was pronounced dead at the scene by EMS. The Lubbock Police Accident Investigation Team was called to the scene to investigate. During their investigation, the suspect returned to the scene. He was arrested and transported to the Lubbock County Detention Facility and booked in.
