Lubbock Fire Rescue and other sources said haze and the smell of smoke Tuesday morning was caused by fires in the Texas Panhandle and part of Oklahoma.
Fires in Potter and Moore Counties continued to burn Tuesday morning.
Lubbock ISD issued a statement.
“Our health services coordinator sent a memo to principals and nurses this morning advising them to restrict outdoor activities this morning and evaluate conditions as the day continues,” LISD said. “Students with asthma and other breathing conditions should stay indoors all day.”
A cold front that moved into Lubbock and the South Plains Tuesday morning shifted the winds around to the north & northeast. Because of that, the smoke from fires was blown down into the South & Rolling Plains.
The smoke was forecast to hang around the area all day Tuesday until after sunset.
