In celebration of the 178th birthday of the Lone Star Flag, Representative Jason Villalba (R-Dallas) has filed House Bill 660, which exempts the purchase of Texas flags from sales tax. HB 660 honors the Lone Star Flag and its legacy by providing an economic incentive to purchase Texas flags. The Lone Star Flag was adopted on January 25, 1839 as the official flag for the Republic of Texas.
Representative Villalba said, “The Texas flag is more than just a symbol for Texans. It is an icon of the virtues our Forefathers held dear and those for which we stand every day. The Lone Star Flag represents who we are as Texans and this bill officially makes that legacy known.”
Representative Jason Villalba represents Lake Highlands, Preston Hollow and North West Dallas in the Texas House of Representatives. Rep. Villalba, a graduate of Baylor University and the University of Texas School of Law, was first elected to House District 114 in November of 2012. He is a proud, fourth-generation Texan and the first in his family to attend college. Prior to attending law school and becoming a partner in a major Texas law firm, Rep. Villalba held the positions of financial analyst and economist for a Fortune 500 Company located in Dallas.
